Progress update 2014

Another milestone – sometime early 2014

Both buildings to lock up – a momentous achievement. Feels like it has taken an eternity to get here and we can only guess how many more eternities it will take to complete, but at last we have both buildings sealed to the elements and can begin to focus on the interior of the main house.

I have scrolled through countless photos, although we seem to be taking less and less as the build progresses, and tried to capture a sense of the process. With all the timber work up and both roofs on we were ready to install our main water tank. We then forged on with enclosing the sub-floor, getting bale walls in, installing windows and doors, and finishing the timber cladding to completely enclose the buildings.

It sounds simple enough, but when I reflect on the thousands of bale pins we have cut, folded and stabbed into the walls, the countless shovels of sand, clay and lime Richard has bundled into our mixer, each nail, screw, saw-cut, trowel it has taken to get here, I feel beyond exhausted and only more and more acutely aware of how much more there is to do…

Here are a few photos of the key moments over this past year…
